RABOT 4-358 is a documentary production. For two years Simon Allemeersch set up his personal studio in a flat in the Rabot district of Ghent, in social housing blocks that are gradually emptying out because they are going to be demolished. An artist’s studio was set up in consultation with the residents, in a neighbourhood that was tired of artists passing through. A memory of ‘the blocks’ was established there that enabled a new story to take shape involving the occupants and the outside world.

The performance is a search for answers to some very simple questions. Why is it that the earliest occupants were seen as big-headed? How could this have changed so quickly? Why was the only communal area in the tower-blocks a mortuary? Who conceived the shape of these buildings?
This gives rise to a story from the inside out, about housing, economics, poverty and personal fictions. At the intersection of architecture, urban development, history and design.
